The Friends of the Edson Public Library Society is a registered charity, founded in 2006, and separate from the Library itself. The funds raised by the Friends Group do not replace the Library’s core funding, but rather enhance the special programs and services that the Library can provide.
Our very generous donors are people who strongly believe in the role that the public library can play in a community’s life. The gifts of literacy and life-long learning touch everyone - regardless of age, gender, or income.
Vision
A strong public library is the cornerstone of democracy and plays a vital role in the quality of life that residents experience. The Friends Group, through the generosity of its donors, helps the Edson Public Library meet the community’s educational, recreational, and life-long learning needs. Residents of Edson and the surrounding County will continue to have access to a world of information and ideas through their Library, thanks to ongoing support from individuals and business.
Current Focus
The Friends Group currently plans to:
- support the purchase of new books and other materials to enhance the Library’s collections.
- support children’s services, special needs, and access to new technology in the Library.
Successes
The Friends Group has received tremendous support from the community and been able to provide the Edson Public Library with a Merlin Text Enlarger to assist readers with limited vision, funds to create a Juvenile French collection, bright new furniture for the children’s area, improved perennial beds and better signage for library shelves.
